As one of the UNESCO network’s creative cities of gastronomy, some of Macao’s culinary talents have taken inspiration from art masterpieces during the six-month-long Art Macao festival that runs from May to October 2019.
After all, food and art are inexplicably linked through the creative concept of marrying ingredients to beautifully plated dishes.
As you make your way around Macao checking out Art Macao’s excellent display of art across the city, here are some dining options to whet your appetite and tickle your tastebuds.

Art Menus in Macao
Golden Peacock
The Venetian Macao
Ceramics is one of China’s most significant contribution to the world.
Ceramic artist Caroline Cheng has curated over 80 masterpieces with the ceramic theme for Sands China’s “All That’s Gold Does Glitter” exhibition (runs through October 9).
The large-scale exhibition also includes the artist’s “Prosperity” series, most known for the intricate clusters of painstakingly handmade ceramic butterflies attached to the traditional Han robes in rich colours.
One Michelin-starred Indian restaurant Golden Peacock features a four-course menu (MOP588+) with dishes inspired by the “Prosperity” series’ blue and white ceramic butterfly Han robe.
Highlights include the “Lobster Maheen Katli” and “Prosperity” dessert.
The dessert comes decorated with chocolate butterflies, blueberries, hazelnut chocolate mousse, yogurt, cardamom, cherries and topped with gold leaf, in the same shade of blue as the art piece.
Portofino
The Venetian Macao
At Portofino, art set menus (MOP688+) at the Italian trattoria in The Venetian Macao features beautifully-plated dishes reflecting the transition from Spring to Summer on the plate with cute meringue mushrooms that decorate the chocolate soil.
The menu’s gastronomic highlights include foie gras terrine, fagottini pasta with Castelmagno cheese and Kaluga caviar with premium New Zealand lamb.

La Chine
The Parisian Macao
The Parisian Macao’s La Chine restaurant serves up a five-course French-inspired Chinese menu (MOP1,288+) inspired by the main theme of the Sand’s main exhibition “All That’s Gold Does Glitter”.
Expect a glorious visual feast on the plate and luxurious premium produce from France, including caviar and foie gras.
The sweet finish is a chocolate fondant with pumpkin ice cream, a plate embellished with colourful fruit and flowers reflective of the season.
Brasserie
The Parisian Macao
The Brasserie at The Parisian has brought some French flair to the afternoon tea with ‘A Summer in Montmartre” (MOP368+) presented on a colourful artist’s palette.
Inspired by the Parisian district of street art, buskers and mime artists, the tea set is a tribute to Art Macao, paying homage to famous French artists the likes of Monet, Degas, Renoir and Impressionist artists that had their studios in Montmarte, Paris.
The artist Afternoon Tea set includes tea or coffee and two cocktails or mocktails. Add MOP 40* for a glass of French cider or MOP 75* for a glass of French sparkling ‘Saumur Brut Bouvet Ladubay’.

Vida Rica Bar
Best known for doing luxurious Afternoon tea sets, Vida Rica bar at The Mandarin Oriental Macao serves up Afternoon Tea (MOP498+) for two, with a paint palette and brushes, along with the art and theatre of presentation as chefs assemble the masterpieces in front of guests.
Available from 3 to 6pm.
The five-month-long arts festival wraps up with the 2019! Outloud Street Art festival in October, where an international group of street artists will be arriving in Macao to add their colourful creative touch to the city with a large-scale graffiti wall painting sessions.
Cocktails
If you’re looking for some interesting cocktails, Goa Nights in Taipa village has a creative menu of cocktails inspired by the intoxicating tales and adventures of Portuguese explorers, incorporating the history and stories of spices and ingredients that made it across the oceans through the trade routes.
St Regis’ bar serves a signature Bloody Mary “Maria do Lest”, with ingredients that made its way to Macao via the Portuguese trade routes.
It comes served with a piping hot buttery crust Portuguese egg tart.
The Wing Lei bar at Wynn Palace as well as Voyages by Alain Ducasse at Morpheus serves up the good classics along with creative cocktails inspired by the history of Macao.
