When visiting the Gold Coast, you can put aside those bulky guidebooks. The Gold Coast Traveller App will not only help you find restaurants, book hotels, tickets and tours. It also has the smarts to remind you where you parked your car, find a lost child and find things to do you haven’t even thought of.

The directory of around 500 attractions, tours, accommodation, restaurants and events are organised in user-friendly menus.

Our road test found it to be a handy travel assistant populated with fresh content generated by users through the integration of social media accounts.

You’ll see lots of fan photos similar to those on the Visit Gold Coast’s Facebook page.

Here’s an overview of some of the best features.

Hotspots is a handy list of the most popular products and experiences, rated by other users. It’s an easy way to find things you might be interested in.

Activities are organised in user-friendly categories such as Top Amusement Activities (no surprise here), Best Places to Eat, Fabulous Stays and Best Beaches.

Looking for discounts?

Tap Show and Save for a list of electronic coupons, ranging from half-price tapas to savings on Go Karting and hot air ballooning.

There’s not a lot here at the moment but we can see the potential of this becoming one of the more popular functions in the future.

The GC Lens function is a nifty augmented reality that displays products, experiences and offers on screen by pointing the camera in the direction of the attraction.

It’s fun to play around with and a helpful tool to identify landmarks and buildings.

There are a host of other features to help you organise your trip, such as Find My Friends, Locate My Vehicle, What’s Near Me, Public Transport, and Flight Info.

We used What’s Near Me quite a lot.

The map of Gold Coast cafes, restaurants and activities are a useful way of finding suggestions on where to go and what to do next without having to travel too far.

Looking for a Gold Coast market?

No problem.

It helped us discover atmospheric eateries within walking distance of our hotel.

Find My Friends is a great way to keep track of family members and friends if you’re travelling as a group.

Mums and Dads, download the App and you’ll never lose your kids again!

It’s also a handy way to find all the best Gold Coast things to do with kids.

The Gold Coast Traveller App is available for iPhone and Android.
