Mykonos, one of the Greek Cycladic islands, is a top party destination in the Mediterranean. With bars and clubs open all day and into the early hours, A-list celebrities to be seen and spectacular sandy beaches, it is the place for fun. However, that’s not to say it isn’t a family destination either. There are plenty of beaches in Mykonos that are family-friendly and most of the waters are calm, clear and perfect for children to enjoy. Some Mykonos beaches offer water sports, such as scuba diving and jet skiing.

The best time to enjoy the beaches on Mykonos is between late May and early October. The average water temperature ranges from 16 C (60 F) in May to a high of 27 C (80 F) in August. There are hotels near most of the beaches, but if you want to experience a little more of Greek life, stay in Mykonos Town. You can get buses from here to many beaches, and they are all within easy driving distance. Mykonos Town is intriguing with its narrow winding streets, tiny churches, an archaeological museum, and excellent shopping.

The best beaches in Mykonos are on the south coast because they are protected from the winds of Mykonos. However, some beautiful beaches on the north coast are worth visiting if you don’t mind a breeze. You will find that they are less crowded than the southern beaches, not only because of the winds but because there isn’t as much nightlife in the north. Here are our top beaches on Mykonos. You should be able to find ones that will suit your needs, whether you are a group of 20-somethings, a couple or a family.

The great thing about a Mykonos beach vacation is that many beaches are not far from the town.

It’s also known as Mykonos Town Beach because it is so close to the town.

This quiet beach is a place to escape the crowds and sunbathe with a view of the island’s magnificent windmills, a symbol of the rich past of Mykonos.

The Venetians built many in the 16th century to mill wheat, making them ahead of time.

The beach can get quite windy and when it is, it is popular with windsurfers.

Because of the wind, there aren’t any sunbeds or umbrellas, so be prepared to lie on the sand if you want to sunbathe.

16 – Old Port Beach

Old Port Beach is at the edge of Mykonos Town between Little Venice and the Old Port Bus Terminal.

While this small stretch of sand may not be the best beach on Mykonos, it is a lovely place to relax if you are staying in one of the many hotels nearby or after a busy day wandering around town.

It is a picturesque setting and you can laze your day away watching the boats sailing in and out of the port.
