There is a great deal to see and do,vwe couldn't fit everything in to the 6 days that we had! Public transport is easy to use. Ignore the Gion tourist restaurants and you'll get great food at very good prices

The old erea around Gion is beautiful.
The old erea around Gion is beautiful. The food market is very crowded and narrow but the food is delisoius.
In the evening is the area of Gion very good to find a nice restaurant. Do not come too late, because otherwise the restaurants are full. With the Temple in youre back, you have to cross the river to find an affordable restaurant. The closer the Temple, the more expensive the restaurants.

Kyoto was amazing - we were there 6 nights and that was a day or two too few.
You should explore Kyoto Station which is both architecturally amazing, has a light show on the stairs at night, and has a ton of amazing restaurants. We took a day trip to Arashiyama to see the Bamboo Grove, then took the "Romantic Train" up to Kameoko and the boat down the Hozu river back. That boat trip was great. Ninenzaka was a great location to walk around with amazing shops and restaurants. Fushima Inari Taisha is great but be prepared for many, many stairs - worth it if you're up for the hike.
The trains are easy and cabs are too if you get on one of their apps (we used Go).

It was super crowded and expensive.
It was super crowded and expensive. Kyoto is a very narrow city and I think it was an overrated place because it has a lot of cultural and historical things. However, the city just focuses on tourism and it seems you need to spend an unnecessary budget for everything such as food and hotels.

So much to see, do and eat!!!
Go there. Just realise lots of other people go there too. Be patient or plan ahead to arrive earlier or late to popular sites.
If you are in a crowd, walk a bit further and you will find the crowd thins.
The staff was very friendly and did their best to meet any request with a more than satisfactory answer.
We truly recommend taking the half-board option as every meal (breakfast or dinner) was as amazing as it was delicious.
The true Ryokan experience also with our futons which were laid down by the staff while we were eating dinner in the hotel restaurant and these futons were put away while we were having breakfast.
Really amazing Ryokan, notwithstanding the short distance from Kyoto Station, Higashi-Honganji temple and its garden.
It was better than we expected. The room was large enough for two people, comfortable beds. I really liked the way from the entrance to the main door - you have the red carpet every day =) Special thanks to the staff, very nice people.
Hot bath (onsen) will help you after long walks, it was one of the best things in this hotel. And the location! Just 10 min walk from the Central Station. To get the center of the city you can use buses or make 25 minutes walk.
Strongly recommended.
We loved our stay at Sakara Gion. It's a spacious two-bedroom machiya house, perfect for a family. Located in the heart of Gion district, a short walk to Tatsumi bridge, Shinbashi-dori, Yasaka Shrine, Kenninji Temple and Gion corner, but on a quiet street. We saw geisha twice. The host was friendly and responsive, giving us tips on the best local restaurants. Two metro stations are close by. The house has a lived-in feel, which is great for families.
This was a clean, modern hotel in an ideal location (for us) in Kyoto. The room was exceptionally comfortable and well-appointed, and the hotel was walking distance to metro and train stations and bus stops, Gion, and downtown Kyoto restaurants and shopping. One of the top two hotels we stayed at in Japan, and probably the best value for money. The free evening reception (wine/beer and snacks) was a nice element as well. Staff was very helpful.
This was probably our best stay from our 3 week trip to Japan. If you want to stay in the center of Kyoto, close to major touristic spots, but also far from the noise and busy crowds, please book this hotel.
You have plenty of space, the room is clean and comfy. We honestly could not have asked for more.
Is relatively close to subway, and bus station. The staff was helpful, assisting us when we send our luggages using Yamato service.
One of the best guesthouse I had stayed in Japan!Everything was perfect. It’s hidden in a very quiet neighborhood but location is really good, because it’s close to subway station, konbini and near Gion.
You can feel the ryokan vibe when it comes to furniture and design. Very comfortable and big beds. Nice balcony. Clean rooms, bathrooms, kitchen. Wi-if works perfectly. You can also make a laundry for free! Affordable price.
- Walking distance from Kyoto station (about 8 mins).
- Really comfy bed and sheets - had a great sleep.
- Love style of the room and the bathroom. Best bath tub ever! Even the kettle in the room was quite impressive (unique). .
- Love love love the stylish Japanese PJ's. So unique, lovely and comfy to wear to bed and around the hotel.
- The staff were all great
- The bento breakfast box was beautiful!
The staff smile and help was heartwarming.
Always ready and will do they're best to help.
Inclouding cleaning staff, super polite and concederate.
The location is perfect, train to Osaka and out of Kyoto ia next to the hotel, train for Arashiyama right infront of it. And Kyoto which uses a lot of bus, the station near the hotel makes it feel like central station, you can get anywhere and back very easy.
This was a fantastic hotel, one of the best I’ve stayed in. The foyer and rooms are beautiful. The room was big by Japanese standards. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and spoke multiple languages, including English.
The location was perfect, within minutes from the train station, next door to a shopping mall with great restaurants and a block away from a beautiful temple.
very new ryokan, many local guest. premium and luxury, the room is good but the pillow is not so comfy you need to be there early to be anle to choose pillow at the pillow station. Onsen was the best part private onsen are very good, even the public onsen is big enough so it is not crowded even many people use at the same time. there are free ramen at night which is superb
This is the best accommodation I've stayed in during my one-month travel journey. No doubt all Japanese hotels are exceptionally clean, but this one is more than clean; it feels brand new and fresh. The location is perfect, with the station within 100 meters. Facilities are great, Coffee library , Coin Laundry inside the hotel. Highly recommended
This hotel is the best hotel I ever stay in Japan so far. Lobby is exclusive, Room is spacious with many kind amenities including for kids and not to mention of location right in front of Kyoto station and next to Yodobashi camera where you can find a lot of things there. Definitely this is worth to stay and spend money.
Perfectly located in the heart and soul of Kyoto, Gion is one of the city's best-preserved historic areas and a great place for experiencing traditional Kyoto. The staff at Gion Ryokan Q-Beh is freindly. The place is clean, light cooking at the kitchen is allowed, coin operated laundry is also available at the hotel.
The best aspect about this hotel is the amazing location right in the heart of Kyoto’s Kawaramachi Street which is a stones through away from Nishiki Market and so many shops.
Had a great time and maximised is great location. Very close to Gion and a Kyoto loop line stop which does all notable parts of Kyoto.
Super clean hotel and located at a subway station so its easy to travel. There is also a shuttle to kyoto train station which was usful for us at checkout. Good breakfast buffet also. Big thank you on the concierge servuce for restaurant recommandations and reservations, we had the best spots recommended.
a cosy boutique hotel which had the basic amenities available at the Reception. Was a bit of a walk from the train station and was not practical to lug bags there. Best to take a taxi from the train station. Small rooms but we were comfortable. Friendly staff.
Location is the best of this hotel. It is close to the station, and Kyoto has a great train coverage. If you are looking for a place where you'll only sleep after a long day of walk, it is a good place.
A great combination of value and luxury. Beautifully finished, nicely sized rooms. Hugh modern Japanese bath. Convenient location to Gion right by Kamo river, 2 blocks from train station.
