18 Things To Do In Seychelles (7-day Itinerary)

Seychelles is often seen as a honeymoon spot and is considered expensive in comparison to most other islands, however, that doesn’t mean that you cannot enjoy a solo budget trip here if you plan well. With so many things to do in Seychelles, the perfect Seychelles itinerary is achievable even if you’re travelling on your own. I spent around 15 days in this beautiful country, alone, and had the time of my life here.

An archipelago of almost 115 islands, half of the islands in Seychelles are inaccessible and uninhabited. Around 1/4 of these 115 islands are private resort islands which are not accessible unless you are staying there.

This is why planning a trip to Seychelles can be expensive and, frankly, intimidating. 

Don’t worry, this 1-week Seychelles itinerary will help you plan an epic trip to this island nation and includes information on things to do and places to visit in Seychelles, the best time to visit Seychelles and where to stay in Seychelles. 

Seychelles 

How to Reach Seychelles

Seychelles is in the Indian Ocean and about 1600km (994 miles) to the east of Kenya.

It’s part of Africa and if you’re travelling from afar, it’s a good place to go to relax on the beach after a safari in the Masai Mara in Kenya or Tanzania’s Serengeti.  

There is only one International airport in Seychelles which is situated at Mahe Island.

The Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) is well-connected to several parts of the world through a plethora of airlines.

So, you can easily take a flight from most places in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East continent to reach Seychelles. Find out which airlines fly to Seychelles here. 

Best time to Visit Seychelles

Ideally, winter is the best time to visit Seychelles.

The winter season starts from May and ends in September start and is the perfect time to explore Seychelles.

During these months, the climate is dry and cooler which will allow you to explore the islands more comfortably.

So, you will be able to enjoy swimming, snorkelling scuba diving, and other activities as well.

How to Travel Around Seychelles

Thankfully, Seychelles has a lot of transportation modes available for travellers here.

If you are on a tight budget, then I would suggest you take the bus here.

The public buses connect all the good spots on both Mahe and Praslin Island so you will be able to cover all places. And it costs just 7 Seychellois Rupees for a journey.

So, you can choose to get down on the next stop or the last stop; the price remains constant at 7 Seychellois Rupees.

How cool is that?

Apart from the buses, you also have rental cars available here.

All you need is an International driving license and you are set to cruise your way along the islands.

However, these self-rentals can be pretty expensive if you are travelling solo.

For smaller islands like La Digue, you have bicycles for rent which cost around 100 to 150 Seychellois Rupees for a day.

Since this island is just approximately 10 km square in area, you can easily cover it on a cycle in a day.

For transferring between Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue, you have the government ferries available.

The cost of a ferry from Mahe to Praslin and back is USD56 while the ferry ride from Praslin to La Digue and back costs around USD16. 

Apart from these major islands, you have boat tours for most other islands which you can opt for.

Seychelles Itinerary – 1 Week 

Want to enjoy yourself the most in Seychelles? 

Then, do follow this itinerary and trust me, you will end up having a blast here.

You’ll be able to relax on gorgeous beaches and enjoy mesmerising ocean views, which is what Seychelles is all about.

Day 1: Mahe Island

Start by exploring the Mahe Island first as there is a lot to see here. 

If you only have one week, then you will need to choose between North Mahe and South Mahe. 

Personally, I liked North Mahe better, so I will suggest the same for you.

La Misere Viewpoint

One of the most scenic viewpoints on Mahe, La Misere Viewpoint gives you an unobstructed view of the Eden islands.

As this viewpoint is at a height, you will also see the entire Victoria city sprawled out in front of you.

This viewpoint is a little away from the city, so it is quiet and peaceful here. And you won’t find too much crowd here so you can enjoy the view peacefully.

The La Misere viewpoint comes on the road to Port Launay from Victoria city.

So, you can get a bus from Victoria which is heading to Port Launay via Plaisance road.

Ask anyone on the bus stop and they will route you to the correct bus.

The viewpoint is just 5 km from the bus stand so it will take you around 15 to 20 minutes to reach.

After reaching here, you can enjoy some time at the viewpoint and can then head back to Victoria for a nice meal

Mission Lodge Viewpoint

Once you reach Victoria bus stand, you need to take a bus to the Mission Lodge Viewpoint which will come on the Sans Soucis road.

You will need to catch another bus going to Port Launay but this time via the Sans Soucis road.

Remember, you need to press the stop button before your stop so that the bus drops you at the right stop.

The bus drops you off at the gate and you will need to walk for around 10 minutes before you arrive at the viewpoint.

This place offers a spectacular sea and mountain view and happens to be the highest point on Mahe which is accessible by road.

Mission Lodge viewpoint is also the place where Queen Elizabeth II used to enjoy her tea while admiring the views around her.

You’ll easily spend a couple of hours relaxing and taking in the view.

After that, you can get a bus from outside the gate back to Victoria City.

Victoria City

In the evening, you can start by exploring the Victoria City which is also the capital of Seychelles.

This city was established by the British government to control this island nation and the place is quite known for its exports in vanilla, coconuts, fish and coconut oil. 

You can start your tour by walking from the Victoria bus station to Market Street which is just 500m from there.

Here, you can explore the colourful Victoria market and even buy brightly coloured fish. 

From the market, walk to Albert Street and for about another 400m where you will find the famous Victoria Clocktower.

This clocktower is based on the model of a London clocktower, Vauxhall Clock Tower and is one of the main attractions here.

After that, you can head to the National History Museum where you will learn more about Seychelles’ past.

If you aren’t interested in the museum, then you can just walk around and explore the city on your own.

Sunset Beach

Once you’ve finished exploring, head back to the Victoria Bus Station and take the bus to the Sunset Beach Hotel.

For this, you will need to take the bus to Glacis and then get down near the Sunset Beach Hotel.

Why this place?

Well, because the Sunset beach offers the most gorgeous sunset view on the entire Mahe Island.

This small beach beside the sunset beach hotel is quite secluded and tends to have few people around.

So, you can relax and lie down on the beach and watch the sun going down.

Trust me, this is the right spot if you want some beach time away from the crowd and if you are a sunset lover then this place is a bonus for you!

Day 2: Mahe Island

Morne Blanc Viewpoint

On the second day, go for a short hike to the highest point in Mahe, Morne Blanc Viewpoint.

You will need to take a bus from the Victoria Bus Station to Morne Blanc Trail starting point on the Sans Soucis Road.

Once you reach the starting point, you will have about a 1-hour hike through the forest.

The hike is through the famous Morne Blanc National Seychellois Park and is easy enough to do without a guide. 

After reaching the top, you will be blown away by the view.  

From here, you can easily see the entire west coastline of Mahe Island.

Spend some time on the top, eat some snacks and rejuvenate yourself.

Then, head back down which will take you about 45 minutes.

From here, you will need to wait for the bus as there is only one bus leaving from this route in an hour.

Do pack ample food and water as there are no shops around. 

Beau Vallon

One of the most popular tourist spots in Mahe, Beau Vallon can also be reached via bus.

You will get a direct bus to this place although you will need to walk a little before you hit the beach.

Beau Vallon has a long beach packed with tourists in hotels and resorts. 

It is another good spot for watching sunsets in Mahe.

You can take a walk on the beach or the street here and enjoy some local food and souvenir shopping.

If you are interested in water sports, then this is the place where you will find a few Scuba Diving centres as well.

You can easily spend the entire evening here, relaxing and lazing around on the beach.

Then have some delicious Creole dinner in one of the food stalls or restaurants here.

But remember that if you don’t have a private vehicle or if you don’t stay here, then you would need to leave by 6.30.

This is because the last bus leaves for Victoria city at that time and you don’t want to miss it. 

Day 3: Mahe Island

Port Launay

Port Launay is another good place to visit in Mahe which is not as crowded as other parts of this island and this is a major watersports hub as well.

So, you can do kayaking, boating and arrive here and enjoy the morning in splashing around in the crystal clear water.

You will get a bus to Port Launay from Victoria Bus Station which will take around one hour to reach.

There is a bus leaving and reaching here in every half an hour so you won’t face a lot of trouble while returning as well.

Ferry for Praslin Island

In the evening, head to the Jetty area near Victoria City and make sure you get the ferry to Praslin.

The last ferry leaves at 4.30 pm so get that one or the one before that.

You will need to pay in Euros for the ferry tickets and have an option to book it online as well.

It takes around 1.5 hours to reach Praslin from Mahe so you are likely to arrive by 6 pm.

Once you reach Praslin, check-in to your accommodation before heading out to the closest beach. 

Day 4: Praslin Island

Fond Ferdinand/Vallee De Mae

In Praslin, start by taking a tour of the famous reserves here and learn about the native fruit, Coco De Mer.

You can either go to the Vallee De Mae National Park which is a UNESCO Heritage site but it is quite small and pricey.

Fond Ferdinand is a better alternative as it has more Coco De Mer plants and costs just 125 Seychellois Rupees.

In Fond Ferdinand, they will take you on a short walk and give you information about all the native plants, insects and birds on the way.

You’ll learn about the vanilla plant and how vanilla is extracted as well as how the germination of Coco De Mer works.

It is a four-hour tour in which you are taken to a viewpoint to see the coastline and the surrounding islands.

Honestly, it is a lot of fun and one of the top things to do in Praslin.

Anse Georgette Beach

In the evening, head to the most beautiful beach on Praslin Island, Anse Georgette Beach.

Take a bus to the Constance Lemuria Hotel to get to this beach.

One thing to remember, you will need to ask for a slot to enter the beach from the hotel (your accommodation can arrange this).  

There is no entrance charge but you are only allowed to stay for an hour here.

Anse Georgette beach is a beautiful beach and you have to cross the hotel’s golf court to reach it. 

And once you reach the beach, just lay down and enjoy the clear blue skies and the surrounding vegetation.

Day 5: Praslin Island

Day Tour to Cousin Island

Next day, take a day tour to the nearby Cousin Island. 

It is a five-hour long trip, which usually includes lunch. 

Cousin Island is perfect for bird watchers and nature lovers.

It happens to be the home of some endemic animals and plants and one can also find the almost-extinct Seychelles Warbler here.

Since this is a protected island, you can only visit this during the weekend so plan your trip carefully.

This is also a nesting ground for hawksbill turtles. 

Anse Lazio Beach

In the evening, head to the famous Anse Lazio Beach.

This is not directly accessible by a bus so you will need to take a bus to the last possible stop and then walk for 1 km from there to the beach.

If you have a rental car then you can take it to the beach and park it in the parking area.

They say this is the second-most beautiful beach on Praslin Island (after Anse Georgette).

The best thing about Anse Lazio beach is there is no time restriction here and you can stay as long as you want. 

There’s a small Giant tortoise farm where you can interact with these amazing creatures.

Day 6: La Digue Island

In the morning, take a ferry from Praslin Island to La Digue Island, which will take no more than 20 minutes. 

Veuve Reserve

Check in to your hotel or cottage and start your day by taking a walk in the Veuve Reserve.

This is where you might catch sight of the Seychelles native endemic bird, the Black Paradise Flycatcher.

This small forest reserve shelters multiple pairs of these flycatcher birds.

An interesting fact about these birds is that male and female birds have a different design.

Male birds have a long black tail feather while the female ones don’t.

Apart from the flycatchers, you will also find other species like fruit bats and terrapins. 

Entrance is free and the reserve is open every day from 8 am to 4 pm.

L’Union Estate

Once upon a time, La Digue was mainly known for coconut farming which was carried out in L’Union Estate.

Take a walk inside this national heritage site and see the traditional copra mill and kiln, vanilla plantations and the old plantation house.

Apart from that, a fun thing to do is to spend time at the giant tortoise pen and feed them some leaves.

There is also an ancient colonial graveyard here where the original settlers of La Digue are buried.

And, let’s not forget, this place is also home to one of the most photographed beaches in the world – Anse Source D’Argent.

So, spend the day time, exploring the plantations, boatyard and cemetery. 

The entrance fee of this place is 125 Seychellois Rupees for the entire day. Purchase a ticket and then enter as many times as you want in one day.

Anse Source D’Argent

Since you have the ticket for the entire day, do head to the beautiful Anse Source D’Argent beach in the evening.

During the daytime, the beach is crowded with day-trippers so if you want to enjoy this beach peacefully then come here during the evening.

The big boulders surrounding the beach are a beautiful backdrop for the photographs.

There are food stalls near the cycle parking area and lots of souvenir shops. 

Anse Reunion Beach

After visiting Anse Source D’Argent beach, head to Anse Reunion beach.

This is a long beach that stretches from just outside the L’Union Estate to the Jetty.

Find a secluded spot and watch the most beautiful sunset in La Digue without being surrounded by too many people. 

Make sure to bring a drink to sip as you watch the sunset. 

Day 7: La Digue Island

Grand Anse

Start your day by cycling to Grand Anse beach in La Digue.

This beach is situated in the opposite direction to L’Union Estate and is not an ideal place for swimming.

The current is strong here and can sweep you away if you aren’t careful but it is a great place for a picnic.

It is also the starting point for the Anse Cocos hike.

There are a couple of restaurants here too. 

Anse Cocos and Petite Anse

After spending an hour or two on the Grand Anse beach, start your hike to the Anse Cocos beach.

It is a 30-minute easy hike but there is a chance you might get lost so, avoid going alone. 

Also, do bring mosquito repellent as there are many here and keep a sarong or shrug to cover yourself up as there are a few bee nests on the way. 

You will also need a good pair of hiking shoes if you don’t want to injure yourself.

On the way, you will also come across the Petite Anse beach which is another good place to chill.

Both Anse Cocos and Petite Anse have fewer travellers as no one wants to hike to a beach.

The shallow water is enjoyable to wade in and you can easily spend a couple of enjoyable hours on both Anse Cocos and Petite Anse before heading back to Grand Anse.

La Digue to Mahe to airport

Depending on your flight timings, you will have to take a ferry from La Digue to Mahe.

This will take around 2.5 hours as you will need to change the ferry at Praslin Island.

After reaching Mahe, you can head to the Victoria Bus Station and get a direct bus to the airport.

Where to Stay in Seychelles

Honestly, there isn’t any particular place to stay in Seychelles. You can book accommodation anywhere since most of these islands are small.

Mahe Island

If you are staying in Mahe, then choose a hotel or self-catering apartment in Beau Vallon or Victoria City close to a bus station.

Praslin Island

On Praslin, you can stay anywhere as there are only two bus routes here.

If you want unlimited access to the Anse Georgette beach, then I would suggest you stay at Constance Lemuria Hotel.

La Digue Island

On La Digue, you can stay anywhere as the island is 5 km in length and 3 km wide. 

So, it doesn’t matter at all.
