Here’s a cool and funky city hotel to stay in while visiting Bangkok. Mode Sathorn Hotel is located in Bangkok’s Silom District, tucked away in a high-rise building and central to shops and restaurants.

My stay didn’t exactly start on a positive note. Our taxi driver had not heard of the hotel and drove up and down the street for almost an hour before we found it. But the aggravation of driving around in traffic trying to find Mode Sathorn melted away when we finally arrived.

The lobby has a sleek contemporary look and staff are friendly and efficient. Don’t expect traditional Thai design.

The hotel is uber chic and colourful.

There’s a fabulous view from the rooftop and a cool infinity pool and bar.

My room was white and sleek and had a view of Bangkok’s skyline. The bed was pretty comfy and there was fast Wi-Fi in the room (the lack of in-room Wifi in hotel rooms it’s a bit of a pet peeve of mine).

Mode Sathorn is located near malls, bars and restaurants in busy Silom.

The mini bar has some interesting items, including Mekhong Rum (a local drink that is distilled from molasses and rice and blended with secret recipes of Thai herbs and spices). There’s a café on the ground floor that serves western and Thai meals.
