Located in Idaho’s Treasure Valley, the city of Kuna offers access to a plethora of things to do and places to see. Kuna neighbours Boise, the state’s capital city, and is home to roughly 21,000 Idahoans. Once a hidden gem, it’s now one of Idaho’s fastest-growing cities. In and around Kuna, you can easily get outdoors, get an adrenaline rush, or learn about unique history.

1- Explore The Kuna Caves

The Kuna Caves, formed by lava tubes that once bubbled with volcanic activity, is one of the most well-known attractions in Kuna.

The cave system meanders underground for roughly a quarter mile (0.4 km) and once ran all the way to the Snake River.

Some locals believe native tribes used the system to get to the river.

To enter the caves, you descend a 50 ft (15 m) metal ladder, making it an adventure from the beginning.

The Kuna Caves are accessed from an unmarked road. To get there, turn onto Black Cat Road from Kuna Cave Road. Turn left on an unmarked road before W Dickman Road. Open the cattle gate and drive to the entrance.

2- Walk Along The Indian Creek Greenbelt

Indian Creek Greenbelt is a 1.75-mile (2.8 km) out-and-back trail along Indian Creek, which runs right through the centre of Kuna.

The trail is gentle and only takes about 31 minutes to complete, but it still has lots to offer.

In addition to walking, fishing in the creek is possible along the Indian Creek Greenbelt.

Plus, you can spot plenty of Idahoan wildlife; the trail is popular for birding in particular.

Access the Indian Creek Greenbelt from either endpoint. The westmost endpoint is at the end of N School St, toward Indian Creek. The eastmost endpoint is at Kuna Park at 123 S Swan Falls Rd, Kuna, ID 83634.

3- Roller Skate At The Rollerdrome Skating Rink

The Rollerdome was established in 1948 and is one of the most popular attractions for locals in the Boise area.

The skating area includes a unique and original maple wood floor, adding to the space’s funky retro vibe.

You can rent skates for a low price and then enjoy time with friends or family out on the rink.

The facility also has a snack bar, so you won’t go hungry after all your skating.

4- See Wildlife Along The Kingfisher Trail

The Kingfisher Trail along Lake Lowell is only a 17-minute drive from Kuna and an easy path for walking, running, mountain biking and birding.

The trail winds through the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge, which protects resident and migratory wildlife.

You can spot tons of Canadian geese, ducks, herons, egrets, songbirds, and more, so bring your binoculars!

5- Beat The Heat At Roaring Springs Water Park

Roaring Springs is the place to go if you want to cool off on a hot summer day.

The water park is the largest in the Northwest, with cabanas, places to eat, and more than 20 water attractions.

You can float peacefully down the Lazy River or chill in an innertube in the Wave Pool.

For a more thrilling activity, ride the Avalanche, Viper’s Vortex, or the new Snake River Run.

The Cliffhanger offers the greatest adrenaline rush, giving guests the chance to step inside a launching capsule before the trap door opens to a near-vertical six-story drop.

Roaring Springs also has plenty of attractions for kids.

Right next to Roaring Springs Water Park is Wahooz Family Fun Zone, a centre with several fun attractions for everyone.

Inside, Wahooz features a laser tag, a laser maze, an arcade, bumper cars, the XD Dark Ride, a ropes course and more.

The Pinz Bowling Center has 24 colourful and modern bowling lanes.

Outside at Wahooz, there’s mini golf, go-karts, bumper boats, and batting cages.

If you want to visit Wahooz and Roaring Springs Water Park while in Kuna, you can buy a combination pass to save money.

7- Go Fishing At Nicholson Park

Covered with green grass and deciduous trees, Nicholson Park is an awesome spot to spend part of your day, and it’s especially great for fishing.

The park has a pond stocked with fish, and as long as you comply with Idaho fishing laws, you can fish as much as you’d like.

Nicholson Park also offers access to Indian Creek, which is also regularly stocked with fish, where you’ll likely catch some rainbow trout and other local fish.

It’s open from dusk until dawn, and you can fish at the pond all year.

The Warhawk Air Museum is a fantastic place to learn and observe if you’re interested in local or national history.

When it first opened, the museum’s purpose was to honour WWI and WWII veterans, but it has grown to include exhibits from the Vietnam War, the Korean War and the Persian Gulf War.

Fitting to its name, the Warhawk Air Museum is most famous for its impressive aviation collection.

The museum features several important and interesting historic aircraft, from the North American P-51C Mustang to the MiG-21.

One of the most popular amenities is the aquatic centre, which features five different swimming areas with unique features.

There’s the Lap Pool, the Diving Well, the Hydro-Therapy Pool, the Recreation Pool, and the Kids’ Pool. Plus, there’s a hot tub and a steam room.

Besides aquatic amenities, the recreation centre also features basketball courts, an indoor track, racquetball courts and exercise equipment.

10- Visit The Animals At Dominifarm Animal Sanctuary

Dominifarm Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit organisation that provides permanent homes for rescued farm animals.

The sanctuary educates the public about animal rescue and teaches people to appreciate individual animal species, such as cows, horses, pigs, goats, turkeys and ducks.

Remember that the centre does not have public visiting hours since Dominifarm is a sanctuary for rescued animals.

Lake Lowell is a 9,800 acre (3967 ha) reservoir 35 minutes from Kuna.

A popular place to get in the water at Lake Lowell is at the Lake Lowell Lower Dam Recreation Area, where you will find trees, barbeque grills, picnic tables, shelters and restrooms, and access to the lake.

The Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area is a vast 484,873 acre (196,221 ha) area in Idaho with an incredibly dense population of raptors.

The wildlife habitat consists of towering cliffs and vast prairie fields and sees thousands of hawks, owls, falcons and eagles each year.

In the spring, the birds mate and raise their young in the area.

The conservation area is a great place to spectate and check out the birds of prey.

Camp at one of the campgrounds, check out the visitor centre and hop onto hiking trails.

The Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area is roughly 20 miles (32 km) south of Kuna.

15- Take In The View At Dedication Point

Dedication Point is a fantastic place to watch the sunrise or sunset and an overlook offering an extraordinary panoramic view 400 ft (123 m) above the Snake River.

You can see birds nesting in the canyon’s cliffs, interesting shrubbery, and plenty of other wildlife such as ground squirrels, lizards, and scorpions.

16- Visit The Lowe Family Farmstead

If you’re in Kuna in autumn, visiting the Lowe Family Farmstead is a must.

Here, a plethora of activities and treats encapsulate the traditions of sweater season.

The most popular attraction is the corn maze, which has a different design each year.

There’s also a pumpkin patch, where you can choose the perfect pumpkin to take home, and a flower field for gathering a bucket of flowers.

Of course, the farmstead has plenty of food options, so grab a cup of hot apple cider, a caramel apple, kettle corn or other classic autumn treats.

17- Watch A Motocross Race At Skyline MX Park And Event Center

Do you love extreme sports or just want to witness an adrenaline-inducing event?

Then check out the 81-acre (33 ha) Skyline MX Park and Event Center.

The family-friendly centre primarily functions as a motocross bike park, with tracks and terrains for bikers.

If you don’t participate in motocross biking, you can attend one of the many events at Skyline.

I recommend attending a BMX race, but you can also look into concerts, festivals and other events.

18- Picnic At Bernie Fisher Park

Bernie Fisher Park is a perfect location for a picnic during several months of the year.

The park features a gazebo, a band shell shelter, charcoal barbeque grills, picnic tables and power access.

The park also has a playground and swings, making it a truly family-orientated space.

19- Do Goat Yoga At Namaste In The Country.

Nestled in the Idahoan countryside is Namaste in the Country, an outdoor yoga centre that offers several types of yoga classes.

Namaste’s specialty, though, is perhaps the most unusual form of yoga: goat yoga.

Taking place in a grassy enclosure, these go-with-the-flow-style classes incorporate traditional yoga exercises with goats.

You’re free to take a break from the exercises and cuddle with the goats as much as you’d like, and you can also hang back after the class for extra cuddle time.

Crooked 8 Events is a centre that hosts various events, from hoedowns to concerts to rodeos.

Starting in 2022, it will host the newly established Kuna Rodeo, so make sure to include it in your schedule if you’re in town during this event!

The Kuna Rodeo consists of several performance events, such as bareback riding, team roping, and barrel racing.

The rodeo also features vendors, food trucks, a pageant, and more.
