If you live in Sydney, here’s a great way to find out what Macao has to offer. Don’t miss the three-day festival celebrating Macao’s 20th Anniversary as a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China. The Story of Macao festival in Chatswood Mall is a fun-filled family event with lots of activities and prizes. 

Meet Mak Mak – Macao’s tourism mascot is an entertaining version of the black-faced spoonbill bird that the entire family will love. 

You can’t miss the red, yellow and blue mascot with a replica of Macao’s famous Guia Lighthouse on its head.

LION DANCING

Join in the celebrations of Macao’s five centuries of Portuguese and Chinese heritage and culture. Activities during the festival are:

  • Face painting
  • Roving magician
  • Large interactive screen featuring everything you need to know about Macao, including history, heritage, food, festivals and its eye-popping resorts. 

Visit between 10 am and 3 pm for:

  • Traditional Chinese lion dancing
  • UNESCO World Heritage game area
  • photography zone 

When: 12 October (Saturday) to 14 October (Monday)

Taste of Macao Food Festival

PALMIRA PENA

Recognised as one of the UNESCO Creative Cities for Gastronomy, Macao’s unique cuisine will be showcased at the month-long Taste of Macao food festival.

Macanese cuisine is one of the oldest fusion cuisines in the world – a delicious blend of Portuguese-inspired recipes with ingredients from China, south-east Asia, Africa and India.  

Macao chef Palmira Pena will conduct cooking demonstrations of Macanese cuisine and tastings will be offered during the festival.

When: 14 October to 14 November 2019. 

Where:

  • House of Tong Restaurant in North Ryde RSL
  • District 8 Restaurant in Cabra-Vale Diggers Club
