I can proudly say that Šibenik is the only Croatian city (and one of five worldwide) with two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

One is the gothic-renaissance cathedral of St. James, and the other is a fortress of St. Nicholas.

It has four fortresses, each offering something different, and is famous for many festivals, mostly held during the summer.

Outdoor activities, a national park, beautiful beaches and visiting small islands are just some of the things you can experience in Šibenik.

Šibenik is 272 km (170 miles) from Dubrovnik.

17- Krka National Park

Krka National Park is a natural gem with picturesque waterfalls, big and small, surrounded by dense vegetation, cold lakes and river Krka.

The site is quite big, including Visovac Island, where you can find an old monastery and another waterfall, Roški slap.

The River Krka supplies the Jaruga Hydroelectric Power Plant, Croatia’s first alternating current power system.

Because of this, Šibenik was the world’s first city with streetlights powered by the polyphase system of alternating current.

Krka National Park is 220 km (137 miles) from Dubrovnik and can be done in a long day but you may prefer to combine it with a stay in Split.

18- Omiš
