Where To Stay In Hoi An

On Vietnam’s central coast, Hoi An is one of the country’s prettiest and most popular places to visit and is simply unmissable. The ancient Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with gorgeous wooden shops that haven’t changed in hundreds of years. With no cars allowed, this is where you’ll see the classic scene of Vietnamese locals cycling among lantern-strung streets wearing conical hats – it really is that magical.

Choosing where to stay in Hoi An can make quite a difference to your enjoyment. The Old Town also has incredible dining, an increasingly buzzing nightlife and is famous for its high concentration of tailor’s shops where you can have anything made to fit, from shoes and dresses to suits and ballgowns. There’s also a wonderful central market and more to be discovered outside the Old Town.

Hoi An sits on the coast, with the beach less than 15 minutes away. It also has a river winding through it, which is the centre of city life, home to local markets and fishing boats in the day, and at night, you’ll find glowing lanterns, boat tours and a range of bars and restaurants where you can watch the world go by.

Where To Stay In Hoi An

Cam Pho

If you’ve never been to Hoi An, then Cam Pho is where you should stay.

Cam Pho surrounds Hoi An’s Old Town, which doesn’t have accommodation itself due to being a protected heritage sight – but this is as close as you’ll get.

The entire area is very small and infinitely walkable, so don’t worry about the exact location since most sights can be reached on a short walk or cycle.

Staying here means you’ll be minutes from the Central Market, Japanese Covered Bridge, along with all of the city’s temples, shops and galleries.

There’s a good range of affordable accommodation, along with some of the best dining in all of Vietnam.

Being close to the river, you can enjoy a quiet drink in a bar or a wild night in a club, depending on what you prefer, along with visiting Hoi An’s famous Night Market and having your pick of tailor shops to make a souvenir to take home.

Where To Stay In Cam Pho

Luxury – Laluna Hoi An Hotel & Spa

Laluna sits on the river in Hoi An and its prices don’t reflect its amazing luxury amenities.

These include an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre and free bike rental, along with a restaurant, terrace and daily breakfast.

The rooms are super modern and sleek, with Vietnamese decor, balconies and marble bathrooms and it’s around the corner from all the top attractions.

Mid-range – Cosy Savvy Boutique Hotel

Cosy Savvy is in the best location, just 850m from the Japanese covered bridge in Hoi An.

It also has a gorgeous terrace and infinity pool, sauna, free bikes, a fitness centre and its own restaurants.

The spacious rooms are decorated with cute local artwork and have flatscreen TVs and garden views breakfast each morning.

Budget – Hoi An Golden Holiday Hotel & Spa

A surprisingly great budget option close to all of Hoi An’s attractions, the Golden Hotel features beautifully modern rooms decorated with sleek wood floors, that have flatscreen TVs and minibars.

There’s also a large outdoor pool and a tour desk for booking excursions, and the hotel has its own restaurant serving European and Asian cuisine.

Cam Chau

Just to the east of Hoi An’s central district is where you’ll find Cam Chau, a laid-back neighbourhood with a plethora of accommodation.

The best part about Cam Chau is that it sits between Hoi An’s Old Town and the beach, meaning you can easily reach both, yet it is also surrounded by beautiful countryside such as rice paddies, where you can walk or cycle to see authentic Vietnamese life.

Although it may be quieter than the centre, Cam Chau still has lots of restaurants, shops and activities to offer.

Its waterways mean you can jump in a wooden boat and explore the river, you can jump on a scooter to check out nearby villages or head to either Hoi An or An Bang beach for sugar-white sand and total relaxation.

Luxury – Little Riverside Hoi An

Classed as a luxury hotel and spa, Little Riverside overlooks Hoi An’s stunning river from its rooftop infinity pool.

Less than 5 minutes from the main sights, the hotel offers its own private beach area, a terrace, a fitness centre, free bikes and welcome drinks, plus a restaurant onsite.

One of the best budget options in Hoi An, Little Town Villa comes with an outdoor pool, bike and car rental and daily breakfast onsite.

The lovely rooms all have flatscreen TVs, private bathrooms with fluffy robes and some have terraces or balconies, but best of all, it’s just a short walk from attractions like the Japanese bridge.

An Hoi

Turn Hoi An’s name on its head and you’ve got a good idea of what An Hoi will be like.

An Hoi sits just across the river from the Old Town; in fact, you’re likely to pass by it during daytime sightseeing.

By day it’s a sleepy neighbourhood but in the evenings it has become Hoi An’s main nightlife district.

Most of the bars and clubs line the river, offering impossibly cheap beer and pop music, but you’ll find shops, restaurants and bars dotted all around the area along with Hoi An Night Market most evenings.

This is a popular area with backpackers, as it has some affordable accommodation, and plenty of great drinking and dining spots, plus walking along the river to take in the sights is completely free!

Where To Stay In An Hoi

Luxury – Bel Marina

One of Hoi An’s premier luxury resorts, Bel Marina is extravagant and beautiful with all the amenities you could need, less than 10 minutes from the Old Town.

It has its own spa, wellness centre and a huge outdoor swimming pool.

There are rooms, suites and villas, all of which have king-sized beds, flatscreen TVs and ensuite bathrooms; plus there’s a great in-house restaurant serving International and Vietnamese cuisine.

Mid-range – Emerald Hoi An Riverside

Just 300m from the Old Quarter, Emerald Hoi An sits right on the riverbank with its own huge infinity pool lined with palm trees.

The rooms all have balconies and are fitted with flatscreen TVs, living areas and minibars.

There’s also a fitness centre, daily breakfast, an airport shuttle and a restaurant and bar serving up local and international food.

Budget – Long Life Riverside

In a stellar location just two minutes from Hoi An Ancient Town, and close to many of the best nightlife spots, Long Life has an outdoor pool, restaurant, massages and free bicycle hire.

Rooms have river views, private balconies and ensuite bathrooms, and breakfast is served daily overlooking the river.

Cua Dai Beach

If you’ve been to Hoi An before, staying by or on the beach is highly recommended.

Hoi An actually has two adjoining beaches, Cua Dai Beach and An Bang Beach and the road along the coast here has a range of affordable beachfront accommodation, gorgeous coffee shops and excellent restaurants.

You can be in the lively Old Town in less than 15 minutes, in Danang in around 30 minutes and you’ll have white sand and the ocean on your doorstep.

Walk between the two beaches and you’ll come across a whole host of beach bars, restaurants and sunbeds that have your name on them.

Its far quieter than staying in the centre of Hoi An and is also popular with remote workers due to the cafes and co-working spaces here.

Where To Stay In Cua Dai Beach

Luxury – Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort

Located right on the oceanfront on Cua Dai Beach, Victoria Resort has everything, from an infinity pool overlooking the ocean to a restaurant, fitness centre, sauna and spa.

The beautiful wooden rooms and suites also have private balconies, living areas and flatscreen TVs.

The hotel is just a short journey from the Old Town, which use can reach via their free rental bikes or free shuttle service.

Mid-range – Koi Resort & Spa

In an ideal location that combines the best of both worlds, Koi Resort sits on a riverway just back from Cua Dai Beach.

It has a traditional Vietnamese restaurant, separate breakfast restaurant and a bar, plus an outdoor pool, spa, wellness centre, cafe, sauna, fitness centre and plunge pools.

Budget – Hoi An Beach Resort

Almost right next to Koi Resort lies the equally stunning Hoi An Beach Resort.

Equipped with two outdoor pools and offering a shuttle service to the Old Town, the hotel its own restaurant and two beach bars.

The rooms have private balconies overlooking the river and come with ensuites and TVs.

Elsewhere, there’s a spa and activities such as cooking classes and a games room.

Da Nang

You might be thinking, Da Nang isn’t in Hoi An; why would I stay there? In fact, Da Nang can be one of the best places to base yourself if you want to visit Hoi An for a few reasons.

Firstly, if you’re arriving in Hoi An by train and sometimes, bus, the station itself is actually in Da Nang, from where you’ll need to hop into a 30-minute taxi to Hoi An anyway.

Secondly, Da Nang is just half an hour from Hoi An’s Old Town, so it’s super easy to do day trips to Hoi An in no time at all.

Yet Da Nang still has its own amazing set of things to see and do, from bars and restaurants along the riverside to the fire-breathing Dragon Bridge and a beautiful beachfront.

Doing the Hai Van Pass? It’s a long day trip, so you may want to end it in Danang which is on the way, rather than driving onwards to Hoi An at night.

Most importantly, Danang has a brilliant range of accommodation – the beachfront area is where most luxury resorts are based, while the city centre has more mid-range and budget options.

Where To Stay In Da Nang

Luxury – Vinpearl Resort & Spa

One of the best value budget hotels in the region, Paris Deli sits right on the waterfront of My Khe Beach overlooking the ocean.

There’s an outdoor pool, fitness centre, sky terrace, bistro and lounge as well as a spa with a range of treatments.

The rooms each come with king-sized beds, flatscreen TVs and views over the city or ocean.
